RentEngine’s CEO sits down with RL Property Management founder, Peter Lohmann
RL Property Management manages 720 doors across the Columbus, Ohio metro. They’ve used RentEngine for leasing since the start of 2025, and recently moved their rental applications into RentEngine too. When we recorded in September, their median days on market was 11 days. Their target is 21.
We sat down with Peter Lohmann, RL’s founder and Principal Broker, to talk about how he runs leasing. Peter makes decisions based on data. He tests each leasing cost and process against RL’s targets and changes what doesn’t work.
What Peter covers
How RL hires, including remote team members in the Philippines, Mexico and elsewhere
How RL’s pod departmental hybrid structure works, with three property managers who each own about a third of the client list
Why RL keeps leasing as one department with one leasing lead
Why RL bills owners for professional photos
Why RL pays for apartments.com FeedPro and stopped paying Zillow
Why RL switched to RentEngine for leasing
Where AI fits in leasing, and when a person on the team takes over
Why RL treats leasing like sales
Why RL moved rental applications into RentEngine

We turned this conversation into a playbook with RL’s targets, processes and numbers. It also includes Tiffany Haynes, RL’s Director of Accounts, on how she sets the team’s leasing KPIs.
